Sonic’s Getting a Live Action Movie

In recent years, live action adaptations have been quite the trend.  Disney has been producing live action remakes of their animated features, there’s a live action Detective Pikachu movie in the works, and now…Sonic the Hedgehog is getting the same treatment.

Thus far, a few details of the movie’s plot and characters have been revealed, along with the most notable thing of all, Sonic’s look.  And though I am not here to make fun of this live action interpretation of the famous blue hedgehog (the Internet has already made quick work of that), I can’t help but agree that he looks pretty…creepy.  (The worst part is his muscular legs.  Yikes!)  Ahem, other details include the fact (as far as I know) that none of Sonic’s allies will be in the movie (probably for the best, considering Sonic’s appearance) and that Jim Carrey will be playing the role of Dr. Robotnik (or Dr. Eggman, if you prefer).

If you’re in need of a good laugh, I would highly recommend doing a quick Internet search on this topic, as the various artwork created to mock Sonic’s bizarre appearance are pretty darn hilarious.  Just as amusing is Paramount’s own response, in which a Sonic with even beefier legs is holding up a sign that says, “Can’t a guy work out?”  Good to know they’re taking fans’ responses in good humor.

The Sonic movie is supposed to be released in late 2019, and in the meantime, we can only hope they’ll decide to revise Sonic’s design.  As for the movie’s success…though I have my doubts as to how good the movie will be (video game movies just seem doomed to fail), I am at least hopeful that the movie will be…interesting, at the very least.  And by interesting, I mean good for a laugh, if nothing else.

Of course, I’m interested to hear your thoughts on the Sonic the Hedgehog movie, dear readers.  What was your reaction upon seeing Sonic’s new live action design?  Do you think the movie will be good or…not so much?  Please let us know in the comments below!
