My Takeaways from Summer Game Fest Plus, 2026

Excepting a few key players (lookin’ at you, Devolver Digital), the week/weekend of Summer Game Fest has come and gone, and now we wait for the waves to settle. While I wouldn’t say I’ve been reeling over any particular announcement, several moments have embedded themselves in the back of my head, not the least of which was no Mass Effect 5, huh? (Alas, I can dream, right?) In any event, here’s my rundown of personally memorable tidbits from the Summer Game Fest+ deluge of reveals, announcements, and general gaming goings-on.

The Stress-Reliver: Fable gets a release date (and a new trailer)

I won’t belabor this, but the fact that Fable now has a release date (February 23, 2027) made me awfully happy. And its new trailer featured at the XBOX show was pretty dang awesome, too.

The Shoe-In: Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls

Seeing more of Marvel Tōkon at Sony’s State of Play further cemented that it’s a must for me come August.

The Head-Scratcher: Street Fighter 6’s Season 4 characters

Over at Game Fest, I don’t know how I feel about Capcom’s choice of folks who’ll be joining SF6’s roster in season four: Tifa, Bosch, Arjun, and Yasmine. My knee-jerk reaction was “pass,” but I’ll refrain from being too judgmental until they release actual gameplay.

The One-To-Watch: Guild Wars 3

Even since I first dove into F2P MMOs several years back, I’ve side-eyed the PC-bound Guild Wars games. The Game Fest announcement that its third installment will be coming to PlayStation definitely made me take notice.

The Killer-App: Clockwork Revolution

Back over at XBOX, its return to exclusivity was well on display during its showcase. And while several games could be slotted in here, its own Clockwork Revolution feels like 2027 GOTY material.

The Indie-With-Intrigue: Apple Crumble

This year’s Day of the Devs showcase stood its ground with an awesome reel of games ranging from wild to sublime. Somewhere in between sat my favorite, a weird little mystery game called Apple Crumble.

The Most-Wanted: Bad Magpie

Out of everything shown during Game Fest, the one, single game that I can’t stop thinking about is a surprise even to me: Bad Magpie. At first glance, it looks like just another “naughty animal” game, but it appears to have more heart than mayhem behind it. It tops my 2027 own-must-play list, which is already pretty stacked!

If you tuned into any of the recent gaming showcases, what were some of your favorite moments and/or reveals?
