Capcom recently completed its first year of character releases for Street Fighter 6, which ended with the unleashing of Ed, a powerful psycho-boxer, and Akuma, a classic combatant. With that all said and done, I’ve returned to the game myself…well, the World Tour, anyway, in order to play through their stories and max out their bonds. As much fun as it’s been regaining my fighting-game chops (which grow rusty quickly!) via two new masters, a question I faced almost immediately was “what else is there to do?” Leveling up each master comes with their own mini-to-do lists, but with gated progress and no need to level up my own custom character, those “tasks” don’t take very long. Sure, there’s still the need to continue ranking up your chosen master’s style, but it helps to have some incentive to keep playing beyond just that.
Enter the hunt for glamour!

Like many games (they don’t even have to be RPGs per se), Street Fighter 6 contains a plethora of outfit options. And, like in many games, getting every piece of clothing that one can reasonably get, especially rare items, can become a challenge in and of itself. (Farming for unique gear in the likes of Final Fantasy XIV and Diablo 4 comes to mind, for example.) While some items are walled off behind completing certain challenges (which may or may not involve the World Tour mode) or only available through microtransactions (grumble grumble), many more are made easily accessible in the game itself. There are several in-game shops and merchants at which you can spend your hard-earned “zenny” on different costumes and accessories. Some pieces are hidden in chests around the game’s many locations, and some are dropped from random fighters and NPCs across the game when certain conditions are met. It’s that very thing – random clothing drops – that has reinvigorated my interest and has me fighting on the virtual streets once again!

The process of glamour hunting in the World Tour is straightforward enough. When you encounter a person or enemy (provided they don’t immediate attack) on the street, or meet with one of your masters or any related character, clicking on their details among the pop-up options will tell you what they drop and how they will drop them. (This same information is also available in the pause menu while in a battle. And characters drop other items besides clothing, of course.) Drops obviously vary per character, and they also vary depending on the time of day – different sets of character roam during the day and night. Admittedly, the process can become tedious, especially if you’re looking for a specific item, and drops aren’t also guaranteed. Still, there’s a method to the madness, and it usually pays off…usually.

Presently, my glamour hunt is going alright, but it’s hampered by two issues. The first is that some drops require that characters be defeated with very specific combos, and I stink at doing most big combos on command. The second is that some items I’m seeking are only given out by low-level characters, which means I have to really reign in my fully-leveled fighter lest I defeat my opponent well before meeting the necessary item-drop conditions. Still, the search and the challenge are enough to keep me entertained while also leveling up with my present masters. Nicely, Internet folks have been kind enough to share when and how various drops occur through different means, which has helped prevent me from simply spinning my wheels while searching. Accuracy may not always be on the nose, but half the fun is journey anyway, so no harm done in the end.
If you like to grind for gear/glamour, what are some of your favorite games and/or gear obtained?
