Modern Warfare May Be Returning to Steam

A banner for Activision’s upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (uh, 2022 version?) has been spotted on Steam recently. In fact, you might still be able to see it for yourself if you head over to Steam within the next few days.

According to MP1st.com, this banner can be found by going to the Black Ops 3 Steam page and taking a quick look around. There you should see the same artwork featuring Ghost that Activision released not too long ago. Modern Warfare 2 is indeed returning to the platform, it would be the first time since 2017’s Call of Duty: WWII that a new entry has been available on PC outside of Battle.net. It’s an interesting potential move. Perhaps the publisher realized that they’ve been losing sales thanks to keeping the newer games exclusive to their own platform? Who knows?

One other thing, is anyone getting annoyed by modern game naming conventions? In the Call of Duty series alone we now have at least 2 pairs of games sharing the exact same name. This also tends to happen whenever a reboot happens too. Is it really so hard think of new names that we have to keep recycling the same titles over and over again? I feel like it’s becoming very difficult to make clear which games I’m talking about within certain series, and I fear it’s only getting worse. Anyway…it’s good that Call of Duty may be returning to Steam, right?

What do you make of this? Think it’ll help the series? How do you feel about game titles these days?

Having grown up playing FPS, CoD used to be the perfect place to catch up with my school friends (even though we met each other daily) and just relax. As years went by, I started drifting away from CoD games, especially after having a disappointing experience when I tried Black Ops III, mainly because of how “out-of-place” it was. I really liked the Mason saga, but it ended in just 2 games. So, when I heard about the title, CoD : Modern Warfare, I thought, “I’ve already played it. Is this just a Remaster?”

The names seem to be confusing, especially to those who haven’t had the time to sit and wonder which ones they haven’t played yet. I am one of those people.

They need to start thinking of new names at the very least.
