Woohooooo! With extra WOO! Just this past weekend, and brand new toy arrived at the house, and I’m still stunned! You can tell it’s true by all the exclamation points!
You know how it is when you get an idea into your head, and it’s all you can do to not think about it? Well, that’s how it’s been lately with me and the Nintendo Switch. While the details are still a little mysterious, somehow that idea became manifest, and here I am, and set to re-conquer the world of Nintendo! (P. S. The NS Lite remains intriguing, but this addition to our console family is a fine and happy distraction.) As you can see from the picture, I’ve already started my journey with Yoshi’s Crafted World and Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order. While these titles will be more than enough to keep me busy for a while, much to my wallet’s dismay, I can now take seriously the idea of building a Switch library. So the question is…what else should I get? I have in mind that I’d like to focus on exclusive games, since I’m not looking to use the Switch as my primary gaming device, and because I want to keep a physical collection on the small side. Every time I look at a list of available games, my radar starts beeping like mad, but here are five titles that I’m honing in on for the moment.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2
While I feel that the first Xenoblade Chronicles stole a little of my soul, it only makes me more compelled to conquer this particular sequel. Sprawling and a little messy, at least as I understand it, XC2 still packs a wallop with an improved combat system and engaging story. I know I’ll have to get my mind straight before I dare to dive back into a world filled with titans and big swords, but I’m sure it’ll be worth the effort.

Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle
Much more so than Super Mario Odyssey, this Mario game, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, gave me my first inklings (almost two years ago to this date) that I should get a Switch. I can’t say I was completely on board with the notion of a Mario in a turn-based, strategy world, but the Rabbids crossover, imbued humor, and general look and feel of the game all made me think that I’d be bound to enjoy it no matter what. When I see the game played today, I still feel that way.

Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers
I can’t possibly get a Nintendo system without getting a fighting game for it. For the Wii U, it proved to be (the non-exclusive) Tekken Tag Tournament 2. For the Switch, Nintendo went and did something extra-special – they refurbed the original Super Street Fighter II Turbo into Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers. I know the game was criticized for being pricey and superficial, and yes, I’d likely have to get a Pro Controller to play it properly, but this purchase would be all about nostalgia. For me, so much began with Street Fighter, and so it shall be with me on the Switch, as well.

The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening
Looking ahead at upcoming releases, one game on my radar is The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening. Blame my own shortsightedness, if you will, I’ve never played a Zelda game that came out before the Ocarina of Time. So, better late than never? Or, in this case, better remade than never? This remake of the original Gameboy game by the same name looks really impressive. Full of color, personality, and plenty of top-down dungeon-y charm, it seems like a worthy addition not just to my itty-bitty Switch collection, but to any Switch collection, small or large!

No More Heroes III
Far in the future…or, rather, sometime in 2020, No More Heroes III promises to “touchdown” (haha) for the Switch, and I will be there for it. Even if the E3 trailer may not represent the game itself, it’s still looks like it’ll be downright enjoyable. I’ve watched the rise of this hack-and-slash title over the years from the sidelines but have never committed, having only dabbled in the original game on the Wii. With No More Heroes III, I think it’ll be time to dive fully into it’s crazy, crazy world.

VIRTUAL BASTION 
I’m currently playing Dragon Quest Builders 2, a game I didn’t think I’d have much interest in, and am loving it. Also just played through Steamworld Quest and really enjoyed that too (although it did get a little same-sy). Neither are exclusives but are nice to have mobile.
I haven’t been a huge fan of the last couple of Mario games, but Mario Odyssey is a masterpiece in my mind. A great game that manages to keep surprising you. My favourite Switch exclusive that I’ve played, so far.

I will likely get Super Mario Odyssey at some point, I just didn’t want it to take over my life immediately, as I’m sure it will once I do get it, haha.
I’ve heard really good things about Dragon Quest Builders 2. Like exactly what you said – it’s a surprisingly good time! Will have to see how game-buying goes in the coming months. I’ve got my eye on Link’s Awakening; it just looks too good to turn down. 😏

Link’s Awakening on the Gameboy is my fave Zelda title. Cannot wait to play the remake. If you like strategy RPGs the new Fire Emblem is a must buy.

I’m almost certain that I’ll be picking up Link’s Awakening at or close to launch. I never played the original, and the remake looks really good. And after fizzling out with Breath of the Wild, Link’s Awakening seems more my speed right now, too.
I’ve watched a few videos of the new Fire Emblem game, and it looks interesting. I’m not sure that it’s an immediate investment, but it is on my radar.
