Zelda Will Finally Be Playable in The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom

Nintendo just released a trailer for an upcoming Zelda game, The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, but this time, it stars the princess herself!  The trailer opens with Link attempting to rescue Zelda from Ganon, only to be sucked into a mysterious rift, one of many that have opened up all around the kingdom.  So now, it’s up to the princess to save the day in his place.

First off, this game features the same cutesy art style as the Switch remake of Link’s Awakening, and I must admit, I’m not really a fan of the style.  I always felt it made everything look too…plasticy, which I find a bit strange.  Of course, graphics aren’t everything, and I do find it interesting that they’re giving Zelda a totally different moveset from Link.  Aiding Zelda in her journey is a magical rod that can replicate both items and enemies and create copies, called echoes.  These echoes can be used for platforming, solving puzzles, and even defeating enemies by making them fight each other!

The concept is pretty unique (funnily enough, I once played the demo for a game called Shutter Nyan where you could replicate items by taking photos of them…), but I do wonder how tedious it will be having to cycle through so many items when choosing what to copy.  I feel like there needs to be a better way to select objects than the single horizontal row of options the trailer showed.  It also seems like giving the player the ability to endlessly replicate objects (unless there is some sort of limit) could make it very easy to get through challenges in unintended ways.  Then again, perhaps they’re aiming for a more open Zelda experience in a manner similar to Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, in which case, it’s certainly a cool concept that will allow everyone’s playthrough to be unique.

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is scheduled to be released on the Nintendo Switch on September 26, 2024 alongside a “Hyrule Edition” of the Nintendo Switch Lite featuring a golden color and a very familiar emblem.  I can only imagine the game will be selling for $60 like pretty much all Nintendo games.  Are you excited for this newest entry into the Zelda franchise, dear readers, and will you be buying it?  Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below!
