The reworked versions of the first six Final Fantasy games, which have long been available for iOS, Android, and PC, will finally me coming to at least two consoles once spring rolls around next year. This means fans based on the PS4 or Switch will finally be able to enjoy the newer versions without having to deal with phone controls or being hunched over at their PC.
Fans will be able to buy the games either individually or in a bundle on either console, with the complete compilation costing around $75 just for the standard version. There is also a collector’s version of course, but that’ll run interested buyers around $260. Regardless of what’s included in that version, $260 seems a bit expensive for six games that are all more than 25 years old at this point. Also, if these are just straight ports, then all of the complaints regarding controls and a semi-ruined art style are also going to transfer.
Honestly, I can’t help but think just playing them on PC or through an ahem modified SNES Classic is the better way to go.
What do you think of the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster series? Is it actually an improvement over the originals? Enough to justify the high price points?
