New Screens Sent Out for Sonic Origins

Sonic fans will be in for something of a treat when Sonic Origins releases on June 23rd this year. It’s a collection of the most notable of Sonic’s outings, including: Sonic The Hedgehog 1, Sonic 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles and Sonic CD. It’s not everything fans would probably like to see in a Sonic collection at this point, but they’re decent enough choices.

I mean both Sonic 3D Blast and Sonic Spinball are missing from this collection, and those were both present in earlier collections. Actually, the Sonic Mega Collection released in 2002 had more games available! It had at least 12, with the only major absence being Sonic CD. Seriously, why is it that Sega has never managed to release a true ultimate collection for Sonic? Well, at least these games are remastered for HD and come with additional modes, missions and functionality. Check out some of the newly released screenshots over at Nintendo Everything.

As for whether or not you should get Sonic Origins, I honestly think fans should wait. The collection is $40 and all of the games are playable on other platforms already. That, and Sega has made the baffling decision to lock some baseline features/functionality behind some additional paywalls, so it’d be better not to support that if possible. We really don’t want other companies thinking that they can charge extra for “letterbox presentation.”

What do you think of Sonic Origins? Think it’ll be worth the price tag? Any theories about Sega’s strange decisions regarding the Sonic series?
