Since the release of Detroit: Become Human, we haven’t seen or heard from neither developer, Quantic Dream, nor creative lead David Cage. The game apparently sold well enough to keep the company in business, but one can never know these days. Anyway, Quantic Dream is indeed still around, and it seems their next project involves Star Wars.
Apparently, an industry insider by the name of Jeff Grubb has leaked the title of Quantic Dream’s next game. Supposedly, it will be called “Star Wars Eclipse.” He also said that a formal announcement will be coming soon. GameRant speculates that the announcement will come at the Game Awards 2021, since it’s the last major industry event of the year. Grubb didn’t have much more information about the game beyond the title, but he did say that it’s supposedly set in the High Republic Era. This is the era in which the newest run of comics, also titled The High Republic, are set, so it’s likely that there will be some crossover if this all proves true.
While it is good to see more potential Star Wars games being planned now that EA is likely to lose their monopoly on the license, I’m personally not all that interested in this one. I’ve never really liked Quantic Dream’s style of game all that much (it’s basically just an interactive movie as far as I’m concerned), and the High Republic era doesn’t sound like a terribly interesting time period. It’s set only 200 years before the The Phantom Menace, when the Republic is at the height of its power. That means there’s only so much that can realistically be done. Still, I could be wrong about all of this. Maybe both the game and the setting will be fantastic.
What do you think? Do you enjoy Quantic Dream games? What do you think of the new time setting?
