Nintendo Didn’t Bring Much to E3, But Was Still Impressive

I’ll be honest, with the Switch such a good state, I was expecting quite a lot from Nintendo at this year’s E3. I was expecting Metroid news. I was hoping for Animal Crossing news. I was sure that I was finally going to see more news about that new Yoshi game they’re working on. Alas, that was not the case.

Instead I got some new about the those two new Pokemon games (they alright), ports I already knew about, some interesting new third party titles, a exciting new Fire Emblem game (I’m actually SUPER excited about that), and what was perhaps the single greatest Super Smash Brothers presentation we’ll ever see. While it didn’t include every character from my wildest dreams, it got darn close! Here, check it out for yourself if you somehow haven’t seen it yet!

Pretty awesome, right? While we’re at it, let’s have a look at that Fire Emblem trailer too!

I wouldn’t call myself a Super Smash Bros. die-hard, but I will admit to absolutely loving Nintendo’s unique party-fighter series. Looking at this, it’s difficult not to get absolutely blown away by it. Everyone who’s ever been on the Smash Bros. roster is in it. Everyone. Even Ridley is in it! Daisy is in it as something called an echo fighter (it’s like a half-step above a fighter re-skin from what I understand). All the classic stages are here along with a bunch of new ones from games that are only a few months old! It’s…it’s beautiful. Hopefully we’ll see news about more of Nintendo’s other first party titles later this year, but for now…bravo Nintendo. You didn’t put on the best show of E3, but you were impressive nonetheless!

What did you think of this year’s press conferences? What about Nintendo? Have they announced anything you’re looking forward to?

Like yourself I was expecting more, was hoping to see some Metroid and maybe a teaser for next years Pokemon. But the game I was really looking forward to seeing was Smash Bros, and I was more than happy with what they showed. Cant wait till December now!

I can’t believe how excited I am for Let’s Go Pikachu/Eevee. It feels like it’s going to be as big of a nostalgia trip for me that X&Y were after not having even seen a Pokemon game since I was a little kid playing Red/Blue/Yellow. It looks gorgeous and I love the focus on actually catching Pokemon and a lowered focus on the random encounter nature. Pokemon Go was amazing and I hope it rekindles it for me!

That being said – I think so much of my hype for it is due to the rest of Nintendo’s E3 presentation being completely underwhelming to me. So much of it felt like Smash filler (seriously? “these characters have been tweaked a bit” was an actual update that was said). Now I’m not saying that information shouldn’t be released, there was just a better time for it to make it look more like they had bigger things in the pipeline.

Would have been nice to hear more about the Yoshi game and such. Agreed there.
