Dredge Might Be Getting a Movie

When it comes to movies based on video games, typically it’s only the biggest and most famous series that get considered. Yet, it looks like that might be changing. See, Dredge is now apparently in consideration for a full film adaptation. Setting the average (low) quality of video game-based movies, that’s kinda big.

TwoDashStash reports that a production company by the name of Story Kitchen has entered into a deal with Black Salt Games, the developers of Dredge, in order to bring the game’s blend of fishing horror to the big screen. There are no details about casting or the script yet, and there’s still no guarantee that the film will actually can get made, but it would be kind of huge if it does, and even more so if it turns out to be decent.

I can’t help but wonder how well this’ll work though. A lot of the horror of Dredge comes from the tension and paranoia that builds and builds while you’re out at sea. If they do indeed make a movie, they’re going to have to find a way to capture that feeling within a 90 minute or so run time. Definitely doable, but still difficult. Either way, it’s kind of exciting, yeah?

How do you feel about this? Would you watch a Dredge movie? What did you enjoy about the game?

I’m currently in the middle of playing Dredge, and I could see a movie based on it being pretty interesting if they handled it correctly. I’m super surprised, though. Is Dredge more well-known than I realized?

Maybe it won some awards or something, because I haven’t seen it in any context that would make me think it was mainstream enough to get a movie.
