The Puppet and Withereds Debut in the Newest FNAF 2 Trailer

The second trailer for the Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 movie (in theaters on December 5) released just a few days ago, and it looks amazing!  Though I do want to warn anyone hoping to go into the movie blind, as this trailer shows a bunch of animatronics not seen in the first trailer, so keep that in mind before watching it.  Anyway, let’s get summarizin’ and analyzin’!  But be warned: in case you’re unfamiliar with FNAF lore, this post might spoil some details in the movie.

So the trailer opens with those same urban explorers from the previous trailer (like the vandals from the first movie, I bet none of these people are making it out alive) checking out the abandoned FNAF 2 location, which they acknowledge was the original (which checks out, as the FNAF 2 game was a prequel to the first).  They even mention the franchise location, which I think is a reference to FNAF 6!  Ahem, so this location is much fancier than we remember, as it even includes a log ride, but it clearly still has a dark past, as the woman says, “some little girl got murdered here”.  Considering she is referring to one girl and not multiple children, I have to wonder if Charlie (who haunts the Puppet) was the one who died here.

Seeing a grimy old Balloon Boy and the Toy Animatronics kept pristine under plastic bags is quite an eerie sight, but what’s even creepier is the giant music box the woman finds in a small room in the basement, which she is lured to after hearing that classic music box tune.  As some have pointed out, when you see the ceiling, there is an octagonal hole where the music box likely is raised up through in order to reach a stage above (which I believe can be seen when Abby’s shown inside the building at 1:27).

In the game, failing to keep the music box wound up would result in the Puppet’s jumpscare

We also see what seems to be a date between Mike and Vanessa, and they briefly discuss Abby, who misses her “friends” (the animatronics from the first movie) and how Mike has apparently lied to his sister, saying he’s going to fix them.  Abby seems quite obsessed with her friends, as she’s clearly been building small animatronics based off of them.  (That is one smart kid!)  Well, as expected, the Faztalker does indeed lure Abby to the FNAF 2 pizzeria, asking for her to find and help them.  I also believe it’s confirmed that we’ll be seeing flashbacks to the past, as we see one brief scene where Spring Bonnie is peeking through a small window in a door, clearly with the intent to lure the little boy on the other side into the back room.  This is not surprising, but I am wondering how they’re going to handle such a dark subject.

Well, we end up seeing the Puppet briefly a couple times, one time coming from that aforementioned hole in the ceiling (we only see its hands), and then we see its face behind Vanessa.  I have to wonder if the Puppet lures Abby through the Faztalker somehow, as the Toys are clearly not active when the urban explorers are checking out the building.  We also see Withered Chica and Bonnie (and a close-up of Withered Foxy), who Mike will be facing off against in the FNAF 2 office.  And apparently he’s aware that the Freddy mask will keep certain animatronics at bay, as he specifically looks at the mask and says, “there’s no way that will work”, though I have to wonder who told him about that.

In my opinion, Withered Chica is one of the creepiest designs in the whole franchise!

Other assorted details include: Balloon Boy underwater in the flume ride (I’d love for Balloon Boy to have the highest kill count, ha ha!), a better view of Mangle on the roof of a car (pause at 1:54), a screaming child possibly holding the body of another child, and more confirmation that Vanessa is having some serious PTSD, as she thinks she sees her father in his Spring Bonnie suit at some sort of public waiting room or something.  Lastly, there is a male voice that says, “Where are you gonna run to?  I’m not done with you.”  But I have no idea who this is, as I don’t recognize the voice.

So are you guys excited for the movie because I certainly am!  Though before I go, I do want to say that I feel like the trailer showed too much, as I was really hoping that the Withered Animatronics, or at the very least, the Puppet, would have been saved for the movie.  (And before someone says I shouldn’t have watched the trailer in that case…movie trailers are supposed to get you interested in a movie, not show you everything!)  Nevertheless, the movie looks much scarier and more exciting than the first, and it looks like they might incorporate the classic FNAF gameplay into the movie better, as well, considering what we’ve seen so far of Mike using the mask in an attempt to fend off Withered Chica while Withered Bonnie climbs through a vent.  No matter what this movie has in store for us, however, I can definitely say with absolute certainty that those animatronics look perfect, and I can’t wait to see them on the big screen!
