You gotta hand it to these marketing teams sometimes. Not in the sense that the Persona 4 Revival team did anything overly special with its reveal, but rather that they were just so doggedly determined to hold the official announcement until Xbox’s Summer Games Show showcase. I mean, not only was just about everyone predicting it after the success of Persona 3 Reload, but it also got leaked on something like 5 separate occasions. Yet, Atlus and their team didn’t break, and here we are talking about it.
As you can see, the trailer ATLUS showed during the Xbox showcase was little more than a teaser, but it does at least look like fans can look forward to getting a similar experience in Persona 4 Revival to what they got in Persona 3 Reload. Hopefully with similar measures taken to make this game’s version feel less grindy.
I have to say that, unless ATLUS tries to follow certain other industry leader in terms of pricing, Persona 4 Revival’s existence is an absolute win for fans. These remakes/remas- ters aren’t getting pumped out and pushed out the door, neither are they being offered in lieu of new ATLUS titles. It was just a few months ago that ATLUS and JRPG fans got Metaphor ReFantazio, and it was only a few months before that that they got Persona 3 Reloaded.
Both games did well for what they are, so there’s likely no reason why we can’t expect to see more of both from their maker. Heck, ATLUS is still maintain Shin Megami Tensei and doing experimental spin offs like Soul Hackers 2. It’s what makes the studio’s actual status hard to pin down sometimes.
I mean, Metaphor ReFantazio feels like a AAA title in terms of quality and had a lot of marketing behind it. Its quasi-remakes go farther than most as well, yet ATLUS behaves much more like a AA studio, when it comes to pricing, experimentation and product quality. Well, I guess this is all to say that this is an exciting development even if we already knew it was coming. Here’s hoping we get Persona 4 Arena eventually too!
Are you psyched for Persona 4 Revival? What do you think of ATLUS as a studio?
