Death Stranding 2: On the Beach Confirmed for June

Those eagerly awaiting Hideo Kojima’s next big project finally have a date to mark on their calendars. Yes, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach has a release date at last and will be hitting all platforms on June 26. It was also revealed that fans will have several different editions to choose from and that pre-orders will go live on March 17.

With Death Stranding being as out there as it is, it’s doubtful that anything solid can be inferred even from this several minute long video. So, I’m not going to speculate as to what all is going on here. Heck, I couldn’t even tell you what was up in the original Death Stranding. So, for now, here’s what we actually know as far as the next release is concerned.

There are 4 bonuses waiting for those who decide to pre-order:

  • Custom hologram: Quokka early unlock
  • Battle Skeleton: Silver (LV1, LV2, LV3)
  • Boost Skeleton: Silver (LV1, LV2, LV3)
  • Bokka Skeleton: Silver (LV1, LV2, LV3)

There are also 3 editions: Standard, Digital Deluxe, and Collector’s. Standard is just the base game, but the other 2 editions have several extras. They are as follows:

Digital Deluxe Edition

  • Base Game With Early Access
  • Pre-order bonuses when you pre-order
  • Machine Gun (MP Bullets) LV1 early unlock
  • Battle Skeleton: Gold (LV1, LV2, LV3)
  • Boost Skeleton: Gold (LV1, LV2, LV3)
  • Bokka Skeleton: Gold (LV1, LV2, LV3)
  • Patch 70: Quokka
  • Patch 71: Chiral Feline
  • Patch 72: Why Me?

Collector’s Edition

  • Base Game With Early Access
  • Pre-order bonuses when you pre-order
  • Machine Gun (MP Bullets) LV1 early unlock
  • Battle Skeleton: Gold (LV1, LV2, LV3)
  • Boost Skeleton: Gold (LV1, LV2, LV3)
  • Bokka Skeleton: Gold (LV1, LV2, LV3)
  • Patch 70: Quokka
  • Patch 71: Chiral Feline
  • Patch 72: Why Me?
  • 15′ Megellan Man Statue
  • Art Cards
  • Letter From Hideo Kojima
  • Collector’s Box
  • 3′ Dollman Figurine

That sounds like a lot of stuff, but physical goods aside, I dunno. Digital unlocks tend to be short lived if they’re not purely cosmetic, so fans should consider carefully before deciding which to buy. Same goes for pre-orders, since there’s no real need for the practice anymore and bonuses tend to not be worth it in the end.

As for me, I’m probably going to be passing on Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. It’s not that I think the first game is bad or anything, but rather that it simply wasn’t for me. I didn’t like the gameplay and I just plain don’t like anything (game, movie, book etc.) that comes off (to me) as being overly enigmatic or avant garde just for the sake of it.

I can appreciate that many people enjoy it, but, yeah, it’s just not for me.
