The Second FNAF Movie Trailer is Here!

The second trailer for the Five Nights at Freddy’s movie has recently released, and I’m getting increasingly excited!  Not only have we seen all four animatronics (which look exactly as they did in the first game), but we got a much better look at Springtrap, who looks very menacing indeed.  (Only FNAF can make a killer in a decrepit bunny suit look intimidating….)  We also got an age rating of PG-13, leaving plenty of opportunity for scares without the need for an overt amount of gore, which I’m personally pleased about, as I had hoped the movie wouldn’t be overly violent.  (Of course, this might be an unpopular opinion, as a lot of people seem to be disappointed by the lack of an R-rating….)

The trailer opens with vandals breaking into the abandoned Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria, who quickly find that the place isn’t quite as empty as they had first assumed.  (Can’t say I feel sorry for them…)  The movie stars Josh Hutcherson as Mike Schmidt, the security guard from the first game, who is accompanied by his little sister Abby.  Unsurprisingly,  we will also be seeing the franchise’s main villain, William Afton (who is going by the name Steve Raglan, a career counselor), though he has inexplicably lost his British accent.  And considering Vanessa is also present in the movie as a police officer (she was originally a security guard for Freddy Fazbear’s Mega Pizzaplex in Security Breach), we know the timeline must be different from the games.  Since it’s certainly too early to know if the movie will be successful enough to warrant a sequel, it’s probably a good idea to combine elements from multiple games into one film.

From the little we’ve seen so far, I do have a few complaints, though.  For one thing, the animatronics’ eyes are too expressive.  Sure, they may be inhabited by the ghosts of children, but they’re still robots, and giving them angry glares just makes them look silly.  Instead, it would have been far more unsettling if, for example, Chica (and her cupcake) had merely stared at the intruder with dead, lifeless eyes before suddenly attacking.  Secondly, what’s the deal with the scene with the saws, which have no business being in an animatronic’s head?  Just the metal structures inside an animatronic suit makes being stuffed into one deadly, no exaggerated spinning blades required.

Nevertheless, I still have high hopes for this movie and look forward to seeing it.  Even after watching multiple trailers, paired with definitive proof that the movie is indeed in our near future, it still feels rather surreal knowing this movie is finally going to be released after years of delays and a change of production companies.  My, how time flies!  The Five Nights at Freddy’s movie is releasing in theaters and on Peacock on October 27.  Oh yes, this is certainly going to be a Halloween to remember!
