Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition is coming out in a few days, and now fans can finally compare the visuals of the old and new versions. The differences aren’t as stark as they are in some other remasters, but I think it looks decent enough.
Once again, Nintendo Everything is the site with the scoop, and they’ve got five screens you can check out and compare. From what I can see, Square Enix has put in a good effort to make the 3D visuals as clear as possible while preserving the original art style. The character portraits in particular are looking quite nice, which leaves me wondering why the world map doesn’t look doesn’t seem to look all that much better. Well, I suppose it’s a minor gripe all things considered.
I don’t know about you, but Chrono Trigger is one of my all-time favorite JRPGs. I love the characters; I love the combat system; I love the story. I love the music and the prevailing sense of optimism that’s present throughout most the game. It’s absolutely a classic, so it’s always been a little disappointing that there wasn’t a sequel or spinoff that used the same formula. Of course I wouldn’t expect it to match it’s predecessor, but still.
I have tried Chrono Cross, and it just wasn’t for me. I didn’t much care for the characters. The combat system never jived with me; I felt that the story was confusing, and I hated what it retroactively did to the characters of Chrono Trigger. In other words, Chrono Cross just wasn’t what I was looking for. So, I’m not all that psyched for this new version. Maybe this game was your jam though, so hopefully this remaster does it justice.
Are you psyched for this remaster? What did you like or dislike about Chrono Cross?
