Monster Hunter Stories 2 Has an Impressive Post-Launch Roadmap

Capcom, the publisher for Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin, recently revealed their extensive post-launch plans for the game. They’d already announced that players will get Palamute (from Monster Hunter Rise) as a ridable monster, but this latest announcement confirmed that much more will be coming to the game in the months following its launch on July 9th.

In total, Capcom detailed 5 additional updates that will be coming to the game through October of this year.  The 2nd update will be coming on August 5th, and it will add Kulve Taroth as a co-op mission. “Hellblade Glavenus” and “Boltreaver Astalos” are also coming in this update. September will see the release of Update 3, will bring Soulseer Mizutsune, Elderfrost Gammoth, and Oroshi Kirin. Update #4 follows shortly after and adds Dreadking Rathalos and Molten Tigrex. Kulve Taroth will also get an extra difficulty that will offer players even greater rewards. Finally, Update #5 arrives in October and will add a special monster to the game. Capcom hasn’t yet said which monster it is, but assured fans that it will supply them with plenty of high-end materials.

It sounds like there will be a lot to do in Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin, though I wonder if this is going to be a game that’s only fun if played with a buddy. Grinding for gear is good and all, but much of the appeal of doing so is to show that gear off to friends and other fans. Even though this isn’t a mainline Monster Hunter game, it’s plain to see that it’s got the classic Monster Hunter loot chase built into its core, so fans should probably be sure of what they’re getting into before jumping in.
