Killzone Website is Retired

Sony and Guerilla Games have retired Killzone.com. If you go there right now, all you’ll find is a short notice explaining what services are still active for the most recent Killzone games: Killzone Mercenary and Killzone: Shadowfall. It’s been about 8 years now since the release of Killzone: Shadowfall, so it’s about time I suppose, but it’s still kind of a shame to see.

In the years since the release of Killzone: Shadowfall in 2013, Guerilla Games has been busy working on Horizon: Zero Dawn and now its sequel: Horizon Forbidden West. The new game is due out within the next year or so, so it’s still very unlikely that Killzone fans will be seeing anything anytime soon, if at all. With the retirement of the series’ website, it’s likely that neither Sony nor Guerilla Games intend to revisit that universe this generation. Hopefully this isn’t the case, but then why else would they go so far as to retire the site itself?

What do you think this means? Are you a Killzone fan? Will you be playing the next Horizon game?

Considering the success of Horizon Zero Dawn and the the length of time since the last Killzone game was released, I doubt we will see another Killzone game, at least not for a long time. Its a shame for Killzone fans but I guess Guerilla Games will focus on developing the games that generate the most success. That being said, we have seen video game series be resurrected, so all is not lost.
