You may or may not be all that interested in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity. I know I wasn’t. I played the original on the Wii U and it was fun enough, but, just like Link’s Crossbow Training, I couldn’t really get invested in it since it was basically just a non-canon side-story. I thought Age of Calamity was going to be the same for whatever reason, but this latest trailer show’s that’s not the case at all.
It may be that my memory of the first Hyrule Warriors is just bad, but I honestly don’t remember it having a very interesting story. I also don’t remember it having cutscenes of this quality either, but that’s beside the point. Breath of the Wild did a great job showing players what happened and why, but there’s still so much more to explore in this iteration of Hyrule, and it seems Nintendo recognizes that.
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity will likely feature the same mindless, horde-slaying gameplay of its predecessor, but at least we’ll be learning about characters and events we actually care about. Ganon is still the enemy, and it looks like the game is still all about defeating him and his forces. There’s no goofy side-villain and no invaders from outside the normal Zelda dimension. This is a proper side-story from the look of it, and that’s excellent!
Are you looking forward to Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity? Will you just wait for Breath of the Wild 2?
