The most recent installment of the Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel series will be heading to the Switch sometime this spring, so I guess now’s the time to catch up if you’re keen to jump into this ongoing story. It seems Switch-owners will be getting a healthy helping of extra cosmetics too, though I’m not really sure why anyone would want some of them.

I’ve seen quite a few people praise this game as an absolutely excellent JRPG, and I can kind of see why now that I’ve played it for myself. There are a ton of characters to get invested in, the world is very fleshed-out, and the battle system has enough layers to it to keep fights interesting. However, this one’s a really slow-burn guys.

I’ve put a few hours into it so far, and I feel like I’ve spent more time watching the characters talk than actually playing the game. Maybe it would be different if I’d played the first two games, but I suspect that this style of storytelling just isn’t for me. Maybe it will be for you though. Check out the demo on PS4 if you’re able; it does a decent job of setting expectations for the rest of the game.
