Hatmonster’s Top 10 Games of the Decade!

Well, here we are in the 2020’s. It was inevitable, but somehow I just didn’t think it was ever going to get here. Regardless, the 2010’s were a wild ride for us gamers, weren’t they? So much has happened and so many excellent games came out that it really was difficult to keep track of it all at times. Even so, I’ve still managed to figure out my picks for the top 10 games of the decade. Some are probably to be expected, but some might just surprise you. So with nothing further ado, lets jump right into the top pick!

My absolute favorite game of the 2010’s is Transistor, a fantastically unique adventure from the minds over at Supergiant Games! I can honestly say that I love everything about this game. I love the artwork, and I adore the music. Red is a wonderfully-realized silent protagonist, who manages to feel like a real character even though she doesn’t utter so much as a single word right up until the end of the game. Instead, “Transistor” does all the talking, and I couldn’t help but hang on every word. Even the villains are relatable, something that is rather unusual to see in any medium. However, the game’s greatest strength lies in its gameplay.

Transistor’s gameplay is primarily split between exploring and combat, with combat being the highlight. The system is a fusion of turn-based and live-action gameplay. Players can choose the abilities they want to use (these also double as one’s character build) and can freely use them in real-time. Alternatively, one can enter into “Turn()” mode and queue-up their actions in sequence. Every action, from movement to individual attacks, has a certain cost to it so one has to be precise with their choices. The reward is worth it though, as all of these actions will be carried in an instant! It’s a system that’s ripe for experimentation and it’s absolutely worth trying all-manner of combinations. Really, I can’t say enough good things about Transistor and I highly encourage you to give it a try if you haven’t already! As for the rest of my list, check it out below!
