Resonance: Don’t Think Twice

With all this E3 buzz in the air this week, I found myself drawn away from gaming’s past and focused upon what looks like an almost blindingly bright future. True, this year’s E3 didn’t have everything I wanted to see, but it did have a lot. Rage 2, Death Stranding, Prey DLC, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate…yeah. I’ve gotten quite a long list of games to look forward to out of this week. However, the one I’m looking forward to the most, the one that stands head and shoulders above the all the rest is undoubtedly Kingdom Hearts III. I’ve been waiting for this game ever since I finished Kingdom Hearts II all the way back in 2006, and now we’re only a few months away from finally getting to play it. It’s…it’s just awesome!

Now, just like the other mainline Kingdom Hearts games, Kingdom Hearts III has its own original theme created by none other than Hikaru Utada. And just like “Sanctuary” and “Simple and Clean” before it, “Don’t Think Twice” is absolutely beautiful. Here, have a quick listen:

Oh man… I haven’t even played the game and it’s got me feeling a little choked up. These songs have always been so full of emotion that’s it’s difficult not to get swept away by them, and this one’s no different. This one seems to be speaking of love, longing and loss…and perhaps carries a slight undertone of admiration (maybe?). Which…kinda fits Kingdom Hearts to a T, doesn’t it? It would be especially true if Kingdom Hearts III shapes up to be the final chapter in this 16 year long saga of the keyblade wielders vs. Xehanort and the Heartless.

Either way, whatever the intended themes are, it’s a beautiful piece that I absolutely can’t wait to hear as I take in Kingdom Hearts III’s opening cinematic. I’ve got a good feeling that it’s going to be an absolutely wonderful experience!

Did any of the theme music from the games shown at this year’s E3 stick with you too? What are you looking forward to the most? What about Kingdom Hearts III?
