Can you believe that the Nintendo Switch is only a month or so away?! It seems like it just yesterday that we were all speculating about what the console will be like and whether or not that weird oval-screen controller was the real deal. Well, thankfully that controller turned out to be a hoax, and we’ve even got a few confirmed games to get excited about. That said though, there’s still plenty to think about in regard to the Switch, and for me it’s mostly about what games I’d like to see on it. Given how Nintendo has been treating anything that isn’t Zelda, Mario, or Splatoon these days, it may very well be that none of these will ever happen. A man can dream though, right?
A New Animal Crossing Game
I’ve been an Animal Crossing fan for almost 15 years now. Yup, ever since the original released on the GameCube back in 2002 I’ve been right there decorating my house and working my butt off to pay the local raccoon who owns it! There’s just something about the slow pace, friendly villagers, and simple tasks that I absolutely love, and I’d say it’s about time for a new entry in the series.
I’ve noticed that Nintendo has been alternating the games between home consoles and handhelds with each launch so far. The GameCube got Animal Crossing, the DS got AC: Wild World, the Wii got AC: City Folk, and of course the latest entry, AC: New Leaf, is on the 3DS. Hopefully they keep this trend up, because while having Animal Crossing on the go is nice and all, there’s no gaming experience that’s more relaxing than leaning back in your bed or chair and just taking in the atmosphere on your TV screen.
A Real Pokemon Game on a Home Console
Now, technically we’ve been able to do this since the very first Pokemon games. Thanks to the likes of the Super Game Boy and GBA GC Adapter, we’ve been able to project our favorite handheld pocket monster games onto the big screen for a long time now. We’ve even had games like Pokemon Stadium and Pokemon Coliseum that brought the fun of Pokemon battling to our TVs without having to hook up a Game Boy. Still, it still feels like we’ve never really gotten a true Pokemon game made for a home console. I’m not really sure what I’m expecting for such a game, but it would definitely make the Switch a much more attractive console.
A New Metroid Prime Game (please oh please let this one happen!)
I think I may have mentioned this somewhere before, but I think it bears repeating here: I love the Metroid Prime games! Being a Metroid fan has been hard these last few years, especially since the last real Metroid game came out in 2010, and that game was Metroid: Other M (ugh…). Yes we got a game that had “Metroid” in the title last year, but I see no reason why I should count it (please correct me if I’m wrong). I say we’re more than due for a proper Metroid game at this point and am keeping my fingers crossed in the hopes that the Switch will be the platform for its glorious return!
I’ll say it right now, I’m not yet sold on the Switch. Zelda and Mario are nice and all, but on their own they’re just not system sellers for me. Metroid is though. If Nintnedo releases a new, proper, Metroid game on the Switch, I’ll pick up both on it’s launch day!
Now Nintendo has enjoyed a great deal of success with each of these series so far, so it’s doubtful that fear of losing money is what’s been holding them back up ’till now. They’ve already announced games for their heaviest hitters so maybe, just maybe, it’ll finally be time for these games to happen. I think it’s just a matter of how seriously Nintendo intends to support this new console.
What games are you waiting for Nintendo to announce? If you’re not already on board with the Switch, is there a game that would sell the console to you?
