Game delays are extremely common these days, to the point where we practically expect to hear at least one delay announced for any given project. It’s always kind of disappointing to hear, but better to have come out later and finished than for it to arrive earlier as an unfinished mess, right? Still, it’s a bit odd when even a remaster of a 20+ year old game can’t even get out on time. Case and point: the Croc Remaster is now delayed to 2025.
Nintendo Life reported that Argonaut has confirmed that its remaster of Croc: Legend of the Gobbos is now delayed to some time in Q1 2025. The reason given was basically the same one that accompanies every delay: more time for final touches is needed.
I was a bit surprised when I heard about the remaster initially. I mean Croc was never exactly a household name. Even back when it was relatively new, I was the only one in my friend group that had played it. Yet, somehow it’s coming back 27 years later. Hopefully it sells well enough to keep Argonaut afloat, but I wonder just how many people are truly excited for this.
As for the delay, I just find it odd that giving the game an HD facelift and modern controls is apparently so difficult a task that a few more months are needed. Mind you I’m no game developer so I’m quite ignorant, but this still seems like it should be a relatively simple project compared to most. Who knows? Maybe the original code got lost and they’re rebuilding it from scratch.
What do you think? Are you psyched for Croc to come back?
