Latest Silent Hill 2 Patch Worsens Game-Breaking Bug on PS5

There’s very little to complain about when it comes to Bloober Team and Konami’s Silent Hill 2 remake. The atmosphere is just as creepy, disquieting and often uneasy as it was in the original. The haunted town’s famous fog still creates a solid sense of claustrophobia and the changes actually make sense for the most part (unless you’re a hardline purist). Unfortunatel, though, the most recent patch has broken some things for some players.

After the patch, many players, myself included, are reporting that the cube puzzle in the labyrinth portion of Silent Hill 2 is now broken. What it does is prevents the rotating cube and the room it’s in from updating, after the player completes the Rotten Place, prevent- ing progress and effectively locking them out of the rest of the game. This bug existed before, but it seems that the patch has made it a more common occurrence.

The patch being the culprit is just unconfirmed fan theory, however, the current most reliable fix/workaround is to uninstall the game and then reinstall the base version from a physical disc (and NOT allow the update to be downloaded). Again, though, it worked for me, so it’s certainly looking like the case, albeit anecdotally.

I don’t know about you, but running into a bug like this severely dampens my enthusiasm for a game. Like, I’m willing to try some fixes and even replay a bit, but the longer it takes the less I start to care about finishing it. I’m also less likely to recommend it to friends. I’d hate to see this game’s success stunted, so hopefully this gets addressed quickly.

What do you think of these sorts of bugs? How do they affect your fun? Do they ruin it completely or do you not actually mind all that much?
