Baldur’s Gate 3 Development Winding Down; Larian Focusing on New Project

There was a time where it’d be weird to talk about a game’s development coming to an end almost a year after release. I mean, once a game launches, you’d think that it’d then be fully developed, right? Of course, with DLC and the now modern practice of regular updates, development isn’t over ‘till it’s over, and Larian has just confirmed that Baldur’s Gate 3 is more or less there at last.

As reported by VideoGamer, in a recent tweet regarding the studio’s upcoming PAX West panel, Larian publishing director Michael Douse more or less confirmed that it’ll be the last time the studio discusses Baldur’s Gate 3’s development.

“This’ll be a lively, cathartic panel, and probably the last time you’ll see the guys talk about BG3’s development and we close the book and put our heads down for what’s next.”

Larian already confirmed previously that it won’t be producing DLC expansions for BG3 nor will it produce a sequel. They are instead working on an entirely new, original IP, which, I think, will be just as good if not better. Larian has come a long way since it first started attracting attention with the first Divinity: Original Sin, and I think it still has unrealized potential to tap into.

What do you think? Are you disappointed that BG# won’t be getting any proper expansions? Are you looking forward to Larian’s next game?
