The Trailers for Reanimal and Little Nightmares 3 Look Rather Similar…

Tarsier Studios, the developer of the first and second Little Nightmares games, has recently released a trailer for an upcoming horror game called Reanimal.  And from what little I’ve seen so far, it looks absolutely horrifying!  The game really has that same Little Nightmares aesthetic, complete with tiny child protagonists, an apocalyptic city, and a muted color palette.  But this time, the grotesque monsters the games are known for are more animal-themed.  The biggest focus was on a bizarre sheep monster, though we also catch a glimpse of a pig, along with some other creatures I can’t quite identify.

We also got a new trailer for Little Nightmares 3, which is being developed by Supermassive Games, but I don’t think I have much else to say about it that I didn’t already cover when discussing the last trailer.  This new trailer just seems to be heavily emphasizing the puzzling and teamwork aspect of the gameplay, including showing off a large beetle that the pair have to work together to defeat.

The thing I find the most interesting, however, is how similar both games look.  No, scratch that.  Because, frankly, Reanimal looks a lot more like a third installment into the Little Nightmares universe than the official Little Nightmares 3 does.  From what little I’ve seen of the trailer, Reanimal appears to have a better atmosphere and more interesting monster designs, plus it looks way scarier.  Man, I’ve never been so disturbed by a sheep before!

Of course, seeing as neither game has released yet, it’s too early to judge the quality of either at this time.  Nevertheless, I can’t help but feel that Reanimal looks like the better game, and again, that trailer was way more terrifying than anything I’ve seen from LN3 so far.  On the flipside, however, I don’t like seeing unpleasant things happening to animals (that’s why I really didn’t like The Last Guardian, plus I was deeply disturbed by the worms infecting those poor pigs in Inside).  So seeing the…probably deceased sheep coming back to life in the trailer was a whole lot of nope for me.  And honestly, what even is going on in this world, huh?  Based on what happens with that sheep and the title, are animals…reanimating and coming back to life as twisted monstrosities?  With that said, I’m about as intrigued by the trailer for Reanimal as I am disturbed by it.

More comparisons are as follows…  According to the official website, Reanimal is probably going to be rated M, while Little Nightmares games are typically rated T.  Both games have you playing as two children.  In Reanimal, you play as a brother and sister who must rescue their missing friends and escape the island they used to call home, while in LN3, you play as two friends called Low and Alone who are trying to find a way out of the Nowhere.  Reanimal also has dialogue, while Little Nightmares games typically don’t.  The first two LN games showed us that you can certainly tell a compelling story without any dialogue, but having some voice acting could certainly add an interesting new layer to Reanimal’s story.  Reanimal will also be just a bit harder to get your hands on, as it appears like it’s going to be available on PC, PS5, and the XBox Series X/S, while LN3 will be available on PC, all modern consoles, plus PS4 and XBox One.

Which game looks more intriguing to you, dear readers, Reanimal or Little Nightmares 3?  Please let us know what you thought about these new trailers in the comments below!
