As should likely surprise no one, the next Resident Evil is already in development. Capcom confirmed as much during its Capcom Next 2024 showcase. What might be something of a surprise, though, is that the man who helmed Resident Evil 7 is back in the director’s chair.
As reported by GameSpot, the publisher said there’s another Resident Evil game in theworks but would not say yet whether it was actually Resident Evil 9. Still, the quote from Director Koshi Nakanashi seems to hint heavily that that is in fact what he and his team are working on.
The quote reads, “We’re making a new Resident Evil. It was really difficult to figure out what to do after 7, but I found it, and, to be honest, it feels substantial.”
There really isn’t any solid information about this new Resident Evil, but rumor apparently has it that it’ll feature an open-world structure. I kind of hope that isn’t the case, actually. As much as I think it works for Elden Ring, slowly unlocking more and more of the environment is kind of a key part of the Resident Evil experience. Besides, we’ve already gotten (and are still getting) plenty of open-world zombie games. It’d be much better to get the curated horror experience of Resident Evil than yet another one of those, you know?
What do you think though? What would you want to see in a new Resident Evil?
