If you’ve been following Helldivers 2 at all, then you’re probably already aware of the ongoing controversy surrounding the PSN linking requirement. I’m mostly tired of it myself, so I’m not really here to recap all of it. Rather, I just want to comment on this latest story and see what your thoughts on all this are.
So, the news, as reported by Techraptor, is that Helldivers 2 has been delisted in over 170 Steam regions. Also, those regions cover something around 100+ countries, apparently. Naturally, people are very upset about this and the whole debacle, and I’d say it’s understandable. I mean, it really sucks to basically have a company like Sony come in and revoke access to a game you’re enjoying. I also think all these companies requiring 3rd party accounts to play stuff on separate platforms like Steam is completely ridiculous and I’d rather not see that proliferate any further.
All that said though, I’m not sure if this spiraling cycle of vitriol is entirely warranted, well against Arrowhead and their game at least. Like, yeah, they’re not entirely blameless in how this was handled, but it really seems like they’re stuck in the middle here. As for Sony, I suppose my position is that they really suck for doing this, and I hope they at least do something for all the players their decision has impacted.
Like, at the very least those who’ve effectively lost legal access to the game should get a refund. Beyond all that though, I don’t think it’s good to be taking all this out on Arrowhead and Helldivers 2. The game is still good and worth celebrating for a lot of reasons, so it’s really unfortunate that this happened.
What’s your take on all this? What do you think should be done?
