We have once again come around to our favorite time of the year – when the days become more shadowy and the nighttime fog settles in, we know that Halloween is approaching. Here on Virtual Bastion, that means its time again for #Spooktober! Spooktober is our yearly, October celebration of all things scary when it comes to video games. In the past, we’ve focused Spooktober on themes revolving around horror games, scary moments and characters, and even scary things in games that were anything but. This year, we’re taking a different approach, and we’re hoping to have your input!

For this Spooktober, instead of having a singular theme, we’re asking four big questions revolving around games that perfectly highlight this spookiest time of year:

• What is the scariest horror subgenre?
• What is the most frightening type of scare?
• What is the creepiest type of enemy?
• What is the most terrifying environment?

Each week in October, Hatm0nster, The Duck of Indeed, and I will provide our own answers, to which we welcome comments and discussion here. But that’s not all! We will also be posting here weekly polls for each question, which will be shared to our social media feeds. Multiple choice answers will be provided, but anyone is welcome to comment with their own answers, too. We will tabulate all the responses and, at the end of Spooktober, provide a post with the results, along with our own commentary on what you picked as “the scariest” when it comes to video games.
