Unbound: Worlds Apart is a platformer with lovely, hand-drawn graphics and a unique concept. You see, you must use portals to navigate your environment and solve puzzles. The demo showcases three of these, but the game’s description boasts ten in total.
The first portal simply allows you to swap between your world and an alternate dimension in a manner rather similar to The Mooseman. This allows you to pass through obstacles in your world, make hidden platforms appear, or even turn an enemy into a block. Two more portals are introduced as you seek out a pair of crystal shards. One of them shows hidden platforms, along with enemies and other dangers that would have otherwise been invisible, but the downside is that it gets smaller the more you move, forcing you to proceed with caution. The other reverses gravity and allows for some tricky platforming where you can effectively float through the air.

I had a lot of fun during my 30 minutes with the demo and found the game to be just the right difficulty level, making me think without being overly frustrating. There is also no combat, forcing you to avoid enemies through tricky means. There was also just a bit of exploration, during which I found a few people that gave me some random information (I’m unsure what the purpose of them is), though full reviews do say that the game is mostly linear.
Unbound: Worlds Apart seems like a pretty fun and unique little game, and I really enjoyed how the portals added a fun twist to what could have otherwise been another average platformer. Based on the reviews, it seems like a lot of people enjoyed the game, claiming that it never gets too tedious and manages to use new ideas throughout, even if the story felt a bit forced. The game is available on all major consoles and PC for $19.99 and can take 6-10 hours to complete.
