PS Users Finally Get a Witcher 3 Demo…If They Have PS Plus Premium

This one is pretty self-explanatory, I think. As part of the latest round of additions to Sony’s Playstation Plus Premium online service, user can now play a demo of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Complete Edition. Some are complaining about this, and I can understand the sentiment, but personally I’m just confused as to why they’d bother doing this at all.

As reported by GameRant.com, subscribers to PlayStation Plus Premium can now play The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Complete Edition for up to four hours before having to either buy it or put it down. The announcement was made via, uh X (formerly Twitter), and the reaction from fans doesn’t seem terribly positive. There are those who are upset, about the announcement. After all, PlayStation Plus Premium is the most expensive version of PlayStation’s online service, and supposedly the point of paying that premium is getting extra games to play as part of the service. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is an 8 year old game now, so you’d think that they’d just go ahead and try to incorporate it into the service by now.

That really is the crux of this whole thing too. Certainly the game is on sale for 50% off right now, but it’ll soon go right back up to the full $50 price tag. That sale is for everyone too, not just PS Plus Premium users, so it’s definitely understandable that some would feel slighted by only getting a four-hour trial. In my case, as I stated above, I’m just confused as to why this was announcement-worthy at all. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is a great game to be sure, but it’s also very old new now. If you’re not going to offer is as part of the service (like Game Pass did), why bother saying anything at all?

A further aside, why are 8, 9, and 10+ year old games still getting sold in digital store for $50? Seriously? The stuff is ancient by gaming standards and thus should be offered on 50% discount by default by now. It’s the same with Nintendo. For example, Mario Kart 8 came out all the way back in 2014 and Nintendo STILL wants full price for it! It’s ridiculous! All of this is!

How do you feel about this stuff? Think things should change somehow?
