PUBG is Getting New Arcade Mode, Compares It to CS:GO

As those who’ve been in the gaming scene for a while know, before Fortnite launched the battle royale craze that once threatened to consume the entire FPS genre, there was PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG). There was also DayZ: King of the Kill before that, but it was PUBG that primed the addicting format for Fortnite’s mainstream explosion. Publisher Krafton has gone to great lengths to keep the game relevant in a post-Fortnite market, with the most successful move being the creation of an arcade playlist in 2020. Soon, that arcade playlist will be getting yet another mode fairly soon.

As reported by TheLoadout.com, a new post appeared on the official PUBG Twitter page not to long ago. The tweet reads “Every second counts,” and is accompanied by a trailer showing gameplay that is apparently looking very similar to CS:GO’s “Demolition” mode. The reporting site also made comparisons to CoD: MW2’s “Search & Destroy” mode. If the comparison is accurate, then perhaps those dissatisfied with the current CoD entry might just have another option at last. There’s no eta for this new mode, but I’d bet that it’ll be out later this year.

Personally speaking, I more or less lost track of PUBG back in 2019. The game seemed to be struggling terribly against the likes of Fortnite and APEX Legends, so I kinda figured it’d be done sooner or later. I don’t really care either way since I don’t much care for battle royale to begin with, but it is nice to see companies innovate their way into success and continued existence rather than simply doubling down on scummy monetization practices. Here’s hoping we see more of these kinds of developments in the future.

What do you think of this? Are you a PUBG fan? If not, would a new mode like the one described above get you to consider playing it?
