Mudfish’s alternate history sci-fi romp “Atomic Heart” is getting its first influx of DLC at the end of the summer. More than that, New Game + mode goes live today as part of a free update. If you haven’t given the game a try yet, perhaps it’s time to consider doing so.
Atomic Heart didn’t really get great reviews, like low to average, and it’s fairly justified. If one plays on normal difficulty and mostly just sticks to the critical path, you’re likely not going to have a great time. This is mostly because the story locations don’t really have much meat in terms of gameplay, the story itself is kind of a headscratcher and the combat becomes completely trivial once you get your hands on the upgraded buzz saw club and shotgun.
However, the side stuff, the various testing grounds in particular, are rather fun. They don’t give you everything you could get in say Prey, but they’re a good time. This expansion that’s coming looks like it’ll be closer to the testing ground side of the game with even more crazy and powerful weapons to play with. Both of those are pretty positive things.
There’s also the new game plus mode which grants enemies huge resistances to certain damage types, something that’s sorely needed in the base difficulty. If that stuff is turned on by default in the DLC when is launches on August 2, then we’re all probably in for a great time!
Have you tried Atomic Heart? Think you’ll give it a try once this DLC is out?
