Pre-Orders Flood In for Sea of Thieves on PlayStation

After years of existing in relative obscurity, Sea of Thieves is back in the news as PlayStation fans flock to get their pre-orders in for the upcoming port. Both versions of th game currently sit within the top 5 of the most pre-ordered list for PlayStation, with the premium version of the game occupying the #1 spot and the base version sitting at number 5. For anyone who’s been keeping track of Sea of Thieves at al over the years, this’ll likely all come as a pretty big surprise.

The above was initially reported by GoombaStomp, and I have to say that I personally am rather surprised that there is still so much interest in Sea of Thieves. After its less than stellar launch back in 2018, the game largely fell out of both the news cycle the greater gaming fandom’s consciousness. Certainly the game had (and still obviously has) its fans, and Rare has been dutifully maintaining it all this time. But still, nobody was talking about Sea of Thieves.

Now that Microsoft is changing its business strategy for Xbox to something more akin to a traditional publisher though, any former Xbox exclusive that get brought to the system will likely see something of a resurgence. Well, if Sea of Thieves is any indication, that is.

Personally, I don’t really understand the appeal of Sea of Thieves. Sailing is fun and all but the lack of an overall point kinda kills it for me. Of course, I’m the kind of guy who doesn’t like open-world games for the most part anyway, so perhaps this one just isn’t for me. For all those looking forward to sailing the high seas come April 30th though, this is a fantastic development.

What do you think of Sea of Thieves? Are you looking forward to its PS5 launch? What games do you wanna see come over to PS5?
