Shin Megami Tensei is Finally Coming Back, Next Game Hits in 2021

After three years of silence regarding Shin Megami Tensei V, Atlus finally decided to give fans something to hold onto. During this week’s Nintendo Direct Mini, the RPG developer released a new trailer for the game, and they even dropped a release window: 2021 worldwide. It’s been 7 years since the last game, and now it looks like the series is finally coming back to life again.

Unfortunately, as is the nature of announcement trailers, there’s still little in the way of hard information here. We know that the protagonist’s school uniform is a bit over-designed and that he(?) probably cut his own hair; That’s about it. We don’t yet know what’s going on, and we don’t know the context for what’s happening here. We don’t know if Shin Megami Tensei V will be staying true to the series’ core gameplay or if it’ll take after its immensely popular spin-off series: Persona.

It’s exciting to see the Shin Megami Tensei series make a comeback, but there just isn’t enough out yet to justify getting psyched for this specific game. Fortunately, fans are also getting a remaster of Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne. They’ll still have to wait until 2021 to play it, but at the very least fans of the core series are getting something that’s sure to stay true to it.

Are you looking forward to Shin Megami Tensei V? Do you think it’ll be easy to go from Persona to the original?
