Jak and Daxter are Coming to PS4!

If you missed it the first couple of times, you’ll soon have another chance to try these PS2 classics!

According to the official Playstation blog, four of the Jak and Daxter games will be made available on the PS Store later this year. The games included in this release will be Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy, Jak II, Jak III, and Jak X: Combat Racing. The original trilogy has already gotten a collection on the PS3, so those who already bought that might not be all that excited for this re-release. However, those who were fans of Jak X: Combat Racing are in luck, since this is the first time the game will be available in any form since it’s original 2005 release on the Playstation 2.

As part of being brought to the PS4 the games are getting the full suite of enhancements that come with being on the console. Each game is getting “up-rendered” to 1080p, receiving trophy support, and will be compatible with both Share Play and Remote Play. The games are to be made available on the PlayStation Store later this year, but there is no word yet on either pricing or a more specific release date.

Are you tempted to pick these up? What do you think about these sorts of re-releases in general?

  1. Well this makes me feel bad that I have the original game sitting unplayed on my shelf. It was gifted to me. Worth playing then?

I have the originals and no plans to buy this, haha. However, this is great news for anyone who wants to experience these great games for the first time.

On a side note, I would LOVE to see a brand new Jak and Daxter game for the PS4! *keeps dreaming*

That would definitely be a dream come true! Considering how Naughty Dog operates though…

I’ve only played the original, so I might consider this pack, but I’m not 100% sure I’ll like where the series direction went. Still an awesome upcoming release!

It’s definitely a bit crazy how much this series changed. I prefer the original by far and wish the series had continued on like that. Even so, Jak II was pretty good, even if it was much darker than Jak 1. Jak 3 was okay.

They were all great games, but I think the lighthearted fun of the first is still the best.

This + Crash is a good start in getting these old platformers on the new system. Hopefully this is a better job than the vita port

Considering that Sony values the PS4 waaaaaay more than the Vita, I’d say it’s a safe bet that they’ll try to do a better job when porting these old games to it.
